OPPONENTS "Temple of Decadence" 2 CD-R (Opposite Records, USA)
This electronic trio is one of the leading bands in the incredibly fertile synth/noise scene right now in Brooklyn, NYC. Playing shows constantly, releasing music on tapes, CDR, CD and online, they have honed a style that pays homage to all their inspirations yet sounds uniquely their own, creepy and dark with murmured vocals. Alternately staticky and droning, bubbling and ambient, bringing to mind Klaus Schultz and 1980's horror soundtracks, among other things.
This album is nearly 120 minutes long, and is some of the best material OPPONENTS have done so far.

MERZBOW: "Merzzow" CD (Opposite Records, USA)
MERZZOW combines animal concepts and deconstructions of 20th century music, ambient drones and a deep grinding groove, synth tones and harsh bursts of liquid electricity in a varied and dynamic 11 tracks in 70 minutes that is sure to please all you fans. It is even accessible enough that it makes a perfect introduction for your friends who have never heard Merzbow music before. (For those of you that don't know, 'zou' is the japanese word for 'elephant'. Pronounce it 'mertz-zoh'.)

"Great album! Showcases the new-found range of sounds and structures that Merzbow began to explore with his Powerbooks... 'Inside Looking Out Pt.1' is stunning, beautiful. Processed melodic droning guitar loops are joined by rythmic noise loops in a 9 minute track that starts off quietly and builds to a great intensity. 'Koshinzuka' is a short piece of rotating tones, synthetic textures, and stereo manipulation. 'Music Machine' is another 9 minute epic of processed loops and guitar... And with 'Horse', we find Akita-Sensei revisiting his late 80's style of brutality in a new school laptop way... There is a lot to like about this cd. Recommended."
